COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Initiatives
We understand first-hand the essence of rallying community support and the positive, life-changing impact we have on the world around us. That's why VFW members volunteer more than 9 million hours to community service projects annually, with volunteerism benefiting morale, education, the environment, health sciences and civic projects. Here are some ways our VFW community assist Veterans and Military families.

VA Volunteer Service - Making the decision to volunteer your personal time to our Nation's heroes is an amazing way to give back and thank those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Locate and reach out to your local volunteer representative to get involved with the VFW's VA Voluntary Service today.

Buddy Poppy Program - The red poppy has connected generations of veterans, service members and their families with civilians in remembering all those who have fallen. The VFW Buddy Poppy program provides compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, helps to maintain veterans' rehab and service programs and helps support the VFW National Home for Children.

Military Assistance Program (MAP) - We're here supporting our troops day in and day out. Our members offer support to the military community in many different ways, whether that means helping military families get through the long deployments or hosting send-off and welcome home events. The VFW knows how important troop support is because all of our members have been there. (MAP) is the outstretched hand between the local VFW and military community, offering support around the world. Since 2005, MAP has sponsored events supporting more than 3.4 million service members and their families. For the MAP Grant Application and Guidelines please Click Here.

Unment Needs Program - VFW provides grants to Veterans for unexpected financial difficulties as a result of deployment or other military-related activity or injury. Since 2004, the VFW has provided more than $5 million supporting Veterans and military families who face unexpected financial hardships related to their military service. The program can directly pay eligible expenses with no obligation of repayment. For more information on eligibility of the VFW's Unmet Needs Program Click Here.
